Urban Observers

Urban Observers is a SEQAS community skywatching event held once a month, weather permitting, in the Bracken Ridge Reserve off Jude Street in Bracken Ridge. It is an opportunity for the general public to have a look through a telescope at some of the many different objects of interest in the sky, and also for new or inexperienced telescope owners to get some guidance on how to use their instruments, or just to follow their interest in the company of like-minded enthusiasts.

This is usually held around the time of the first Quarter Moon i.e. half moon waxing (on its way to full moon), so even if the seeing is not the best, there is always the moon at least. Occasionally a stargazing night is held at other times in the lunar cycle for special events like a lunar eclipse, or when a comet is visible.

Astro Camps

For many of us, the night sky has vanished. Those who live in urban or suburban environments have seen darkness replaced by a wash of perpetual light where only the brightest stars are visible from our homes. 

Our dark sky camps are open to all our members and offer the chance to get away from city lights to locations where the sky is ablaze with stars, nebula, and amazing views of the Milky Way. We know some of the best locations for an incredible stargazing experience.
